If you’ve moved before, you already know the common packing supplies and what they’re used for. Boxes and crates come in many sizes to fit different things. Tape is there to seal them shut and colored tape can help with labeling if you want a color system. Bubble wrap and paper work well to keep items safe inside. But have you thought about using cellophane when moving? It can be surprisingly helpful.
Cellophane is a stretchable wrap that only clings to itself, so you don’t need tape or glue when using it. Some of its advantages are:
- It doesn’t leave behind any sticky marks or cause damage when taken off.
- It’s available in different sizes.
- You can buy it with a simple dispenser that makes it easy to use.
- When stretched, it snugly fits around the item.
When you move next time, you can use cellophane in these three ways:
- Furniture with Drawers – Moving dressers or nightstands can be a hassle. You either need to take the drawers out or find a way to keep them from sliding open. Taking them out is extra work and using tape might ruin the paint or wood finish. Cellophane works perfectly here. Just wrap it around the whole piece from top to bottom to keep the drawers secure.
- Fragile Items – Instead of wrapping everything with bubble wrap and needing tape, you can use cellophane to pack delicate things inside a box. It makes the job faster, saving you time with each item. You can also wrap it around TVs and computer screens to help protect them from breaking.
- Fish Tanks – Moving fish is never easy but if your tank is five gallons or smaller, you don’t have to take it all apart. Cover the top with cellophane to stop the water from spilling, then place the tank inside a Styrofoam box to help protect the glass from breaking.
