General Moving Questions

The earlier the better, but no matter how short your time-line, STI Movers will work with you to come as close as possible to your desired moving dates. Most customers reserve a spot on the schedule about 4-6 weeks prior to moving. This helps us meet your needs. Make certain that you receive and sign an Order for Service, via email, to specify your moving dates and special requests. If your pickup and delivery dates are critical due to such factors as lease expiration or a real estate closing, you may choose an extra-cost service which will enable us to accommodate a more precise, reasonable schedule. If you already know your moving date, call us now and a moving consultant will help you get started.

This depends on many factors, such as: the time of year, weather conditions, the size of your shipment, the time required for loading and unloading, and the direction and distance your shipment is traveling. Request a free quote and one of our Relocation Consultants will give you an accurate estimate based on all the specific requirements of your move.

The best time to move is when you need to move! STI Moving and Storage is here to help you move forward seven days a week and throughout the year. Our busiest times are: the summer months, the end of each month and holiday weeks. While the date may make a difference in the overall cost, availability of trucks and loading crews, we will work to accommodate you and make your transition as smooth as possible.

Because the furnishings of the average household will not fill a van, it is often necessary for two or more shipments to be loaded on the same van. Each shipment is carefully sectioned off and labeled from the others.

A binding estimate articulates, ahead of time, the exact cost of the move based on the services requested or deemed necessary at the time of the estimate. If you add items to be moved or require additional services, such as packing, a shuttle, etc., between the time of the estimate and the time of your move, there will be additional charges. Please ask your Relocation Consultant for further information.

To reserve a spot on the schedule, we require a $50 hassle-free deposit for Local Moves (Chicago Area) and a $200 deposit for Long Distance Moves. The deposit is applied to the total cost. Payment forms accepted are Visa, MasterCard and Discover. We do not accept personal checks at any time. The deposit is fully refundable up to 72 hours prior to the moving date, if cancellation is necessary.

Most people prefer to have their fragile items such as: china, glass and crystal, professionally packed when moving. However, if you decide to pack these items yourself, remember to wrap those items individually, provide plenty of cushioning and make sure it is a firm pack, but not overstuffed.
